Violence against women and girls and rape crimes are key priorities for the government and UK Policing. 

Only 1.4% of reported rapes result in charges and these offences account for over a third of all sexual offences recorded by police. 

Offences of all these crimes types are challenging and complex, with many points where a case can break down and not go to court.
